All of us here have either been diagnosed with Diabetes or have someone close to us that have been given the news
So what is the "criteria" that separates us from Joe or Jane SugerEater?
Currently it is simply having an A1C, above 6.5% (47.5 mmol's in the IFCC scale) "twice in a row" measured 90 days apart
That's it, that's all - that "test" is all that is required for the Doc to determine "You have Diabetes"
No matter what you do after that, no matter how you control your blood sugar - no… read more
I feel your pain in my 74 year old left knee. I cannot walk as long or far and totally understand. I find wearing a knee sleeve does help me when I am walking. Even the cheaper (under $4 in… read more
According to data demographics in the USA.
We have been told that the diabetes incidence of the general population of the USA is almost 12%
Diabetes is much more common in the 65+ age group than we were led to believe.
29.2% of all adults 65 are diabetic.
By age 75 it is almost 35% diabetic.
So as diagnosed with diabetes, we are not alone. We are almost 1 in every 3, 65 year olds as diabetic.
In my church, there are 11 of us 65 +. All but 3 are diabetic

I was reading a few articles and came across a couple that were interesting based on two studies that were just published
The first was from a Canadian University in British Columbia that was crunching numbers from the Covid Pandemic and looking at the long term effects of a Covid infection
(I have posted a bit about this before but now they have some solid numbers)
They looked at 620,000 people who had been (lab diagnosed) as having been infected with Covid and "did not have diabetes" at… read more
Yes, Dr. Siddhartha is a great writer. I think you will equally love his new book. Happy Mother’s Day to you.
I was informed that I am not a typical diabetic because I was 32 years old when I first was diagnosed with type 2. (first misdiagnosis), than I was diagnosed as, type 1 adult onset Mellitus Autoimmune Diabetes, (2nd wrong) now I'm told that I actually have, LADA Diabetes "1.5 Diabetes" or Latent Autoimmune Diabetes.. the worst is that I've never heard of it. Why is it so hard to understand..
Btw, it was my neurologist of all people who tested for GADA. Not my doctor, my endo or the ICU when I had my DKA "we don't even know what kind of diabetes you have". I had never even heard of this… read more
I have been told that after having this surgery I would no longer have to treat my diabetes. However I am wondering if I would be trading one set of problems for another. Since I have a weight problem being approved is not a problem, but I prefer to do things as naturally as possible. Some insight would be helpful and appreciated.
Diabetes is caused by your bloods cells a/b
There is no cure by losing weight

I might accept it if they said that my condition *might* be progressive. Can you imagine how some/many diabetics feel when told their condition was progressive? Many may have thought what’s the point and not bother to manage their condition because quite simply the professionals held out no hope.
I remember when I was diagnosed with Cervical Myelopathy the neurologist told me that in two years I’d be in a wheelchair. That was back in 2002 and I walk at least three times a walk and go on long… read more
