Good morning from South Jersey @A DiabetesTeam Member.

Some older medicals in parts of Africa, still believe that you are either type 1 or type 2. Some still believe that if you become insulin dependent you are automatically type 1. Blood work for the markers is necessary to determine what type of diabetes you actually have. Good luck.

Type 2 can also become insulin dependent.

Sometimes, a young adult with maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is mistakenly diagnosed as T1DM, T2DM, or LADA. MODY is rare, has a strong family history, has residual C-peptide, and absent humoral and cellular immunity to islet cell antigens and can thereby be distinguished from LADA.

There is LADA, that initially presents similar to type 2, and is treated effectively as such. When it progresses it can only be treated with insulin, because the beta cells that produce insulin die because the body actually has a slow progressing autoimmune disease. LADA, latent autoimmune disease in adults.

Type 1, juvenile diabetes, is an autoimmune disease that presents suddenly. It usually affects those 18 and younger.

Yes it is possible. But these are the probable types of diabetes that you have. Baby steps.

We are all different and our diabetes journeys are unique.
Good luck working with your unique diabetes journey.

Again, good luck. Praying for you. Want only the best for you. I wish for you more good days than bad and have many exceptional days too.

And never give up, never surrender, never ever.
You got this.
Have a wonderful day.
