I have type 2 diabetes and I’m having serious problems with insomnia I’m getting so frustrated with this and it’s causing me to not want to exercise cause I have no energy to do so and causing me to have anxiety can anyone suggest an OTC remedy or a prescription?
Hey Larry,
one of the "most common" causes of insomnia in Type 2's is a lack of Serotonin.
You can get an OTC supplement from just about every drugstore/grocery store.
If you go that route I would stick to one of the larger vitamin/supplement company brands to ensure both quality control and consistency of dose.
But, serotonin can also mess with your blood sugar if you take it at the wrong time of day.
So best to take it just after supper so it "peaks overnight" and then is mostly burned off by mid-morning at worst. It doesn't "play well" with the body clock when you are supposed to be "up and active" and your sugar levels can increase to aid in dealing with the "extra levels" if present during the day.
Certainly worth a try before you get some RX version to help you sleep.
