Members rallied around someone newly diagnosed with borderline Type 2 diabetes who was unsure whether to buy a glucose meter or seek alternative medications after bad reactions to metformin. The overwhelming consensus was to purchase a meter immediately, as testing helps identify which foods raise blood sugar and empowers better daily management without relying solely on doctors or medication. Several members shared their own medication experiences, including success with Glimpiride and Jardiance, while others emphasized that metformin works well for many people despite causing digestive issues for some, and that regular testing combined with mindful eating and activity can sometimes reduce or eliminate the need for medication entirely.

get a meter. It does help give you an idea how your blood sugars are doing. Also you’ll see what food are rising your blood sugars. And if you’re going to test after a meal, wait about 2 hours.

I would buy one. Test before every meal for a few days and if you are testing in a good range, decrease to once a day.

I am in glimpiride. No side affects except can go low. Small copay.
I like the ginger snap miraculous appearance. Good one. I once in a while find half
a biscotti next to morning coffee.
My brother has been borderline for 10 years. Aside from getting A1C checked every three months he is not on any medication or was told to test.
He is watching his carb intake but not as close as I am.
Each doctor is different in their opinions.
Good luck in what you decide.
