Met doesn't lower your glucose with what you eat, it helps the body use the insulin that it already makes so in general it will NOT lower your glucose levels when you eat, just make it easer for your body to use the insulin it already produces.

Anything over 7 can cause damage to your body over time, numbers for waking up vary for some doc's but the general rule of thum I was taught 5 is the target for to wake up at.

Post meal means you are testing 2 hours after you have eaten and the standard range is 5 to 7 post meal (or it is from what I was told oh so many years ago) pre meal 5 to 6 is prefered, thus a minimal spike post meal is the desired option, or best being lower then what you started at if over 7.

My morning glucose levels are between 3.8 and 4.5 depending on how much sleep I got and how restful the sleep I had really was. Most of my post meal numbers are in the 6s maybe 7 if i end up having a treat with it.
