Great question! Diabetic shoes are specially designed to protect feet that may have reduced sensation due to neuropathy (nerve damage). When nerve damage is present, it's easy to not feel injuries, pressure points, or blisters — which can quietly turn into serious problems.

Here's how diabetic shoes can help:

- Extra depth and width — reduces pressure on sensitive areas and prevents rubbing
- Soft, seamless interiors — minimizes friction that could cause blisters or sores without you noticing
- Firm, supportive soles — helps with balance and stability, which neuropathy can affect
- Custom orthotics compatibility — many diabetic shoes accommodate inserts that redistribute pressure evenly
- Protective toe boxes — shields toes from accidental bumps or injuries

Since neuropathy can make it hard to feel when something is wrong, diabetic shoes act as a first line of defense by reducing the chances of injury happening in the first place.

It's always a good idea to talk to a doctor or podiatrist about whether diabetic footwear is right for your situation. They can also check if custom orthotics would add extra benefit for your feet.

I love barefoot shoes. My feet get massaged with every step. I can walk and hike for 10-12 hours and my feet feel better than when I started.

My orthopedic shoes help to keep my feet safe from injury and or sores/blisters. I have no feeling in my feet whatsoever so I dont notice a difference in the sensation of my feet. I do still have burning sometimes on my feet that I can feel and the shoes dont seem to help with that but that's just my experience.

Well for me , they are so comfortable they help a lot from keeping my feet from burning. I get a burning sensation on the side of my feet by my big toe. Along with my medication and the shoes they help.

I agree Hkc I really feel they are the best shoes for my feet at present as long as the ground is not full of sticks and stones 😉
