Finally being Diagnosed with Diabetes. And What I've Done Since has Saved My Life.

After 12 years of extreme diabetes symptoms and my doctor refusing to test for diabetes. He said I was not diabetic. My doctor retired.

My new Doctor, listened to me and did an A1C. My A1C after doing a no carb lifestyle to lose weight for 7 weeks. 13.5 which means my average for the previous 90 days was 18.9(341 USA).

Members celebrated a powerful story about finally being diagnosed with diabetes after 12 years of being dismissed by a doctor, with many sharing how their own diagnoses became turning points that motivated real lifestyle change. Several members described dramatic improvements, including major weight loss, lower A1C levels, and reducing dependence on medications through diet changes and a positive mindset. A recurring theme was gratitude for doctors who actually listen, frustration with those who don't, and the strength found in community and family support when facing diabetes together.

Being diagnosed saved my life. I was eating 4 candy bars daily and drinking tons of soda. My A1C was 14 upon diagnosis. I have lost a total of 70 lbs, but gained 10 back. My weight at diagnosis was 200 lbs. I lost down to 130 lbs. Holding steady at 140 lbs. I haven't taken a Trulicity shot in 3 weeks.
My maternal grandmother was type 1 and 2, a rare diagnosis.
My paternal grandmother type 2
I have aunts, uncles, cousins all type 2
I have a nephew type 1 and a nephew type 2.
Oldest son pre diabetes. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with him.
My cousin messaged me earlier and said guess what cuz, I said what?
He said I was diagnosed with type 2 and will be starting Ozempic. Do you have any advice?
I said yep, I sure do. I invited him to join our community.

@A DiabetesTeam Member If I had my way I'd have doctors like your one not only struck off the register but jailed.

The arrogance and hubris of that doctor is beyond belief.
