I have been more diligent in testing my blood after eating since my last A1C had gone up to 6.5

This morning I had a 1/2 cup of sugar less cereal with 5 grams of carbs with 9 blueberries totaling one gram of sugar and 2 carbs plus three cups of coffee. Immediately after eating my BG was 175. This seems high to me. I am trying to figure out the possible cause. Too much coffee, or too many carbs? Even though the carb total was only seven.

Are you waiting 2 hours to check your blood sugars, after your first bite? Caffeine doesn't affect my bs, but for some people it can. @A DiabetesTeam Member gave you a great response. You should find your carb tolerance. 175 is a reasonable number after eating, as long as it doesn't stay over that threshold 2 hours after your first bite. You've got this. 6.5 isn't a bad A1C. But, lower is better

The AI bot did a good job answering you.
Sometimes as unreasonable it sounds my PP glucose is lower when I eat a bit more . 7 carbs is very low and some really need that but it may not be enough to stimulate insulin production. I find 15 g works better.

Why is your blood sugar reading 175 immediately after breakfast?

Testing right after eating is likely the main reason for that 175 reading. Your body needs time to process food, and blood sugar naturally rises shortly after meals as carbohydrates break down into glucose.

Why is your blood sugar reading 175 immediately after breakfast?

Testing right after eating is likely the main reason for that 175 reading. Your body needs time to process food, and blood sugar naturally rises shortly after meals as carbohydrates break down into glucose.

The American Diabetes Association recommends testing one to two hours after eating rather than immediately. This gives a more accurate picture of how your body manages glucose. Testing right away can show falsely high readings because your body hasn't had time to respond with insulin yet. Even though your carb total seems low at 7 grams, a few other factors could be at play:

Type of cereal matters: Some cereals, even "sugarless" ones, can be made from refined grains with a high glycemic index that raise blood sugar quickly. The processing and type of grain affect how fast those carbs convert to glucose.

Coffee's possible effect: While coffee itself doesn't contain carbs, caffeine can sometimes affect blood sugar levels in some people, though this varies individually.

Timing: If you're experiencing the dawn phenomenon (a natural morning rise in blood sugar), your levels might already be elevated when you eat breakfast, making the post-meal reading higher.

Try testing again 1-2 hours after breakfast instead of immediately. This should give you a much better sense of how that meal truly affects your blood sugar levels.
