Other "natural" sweeteners can be "healthier" than Table Sugar (which contains No Nutritional Value) but that does NOT mean they are "blood sugar friendly" for a Diabetic

Every sugar or starch carb we consume gets converted to blood sugar in the end and our bodies don't care if it came from Table Sugar, Honey, Fructose (natural sugar in fruit), Corn Syrup or anything else that is a "sugar"

So if your goal is "blood sugar control" alone then comparing some of the sweet options might show you… read more

Members discussed whether honey or molasses is safer than table sugar for diabetics, with the original poster explaining that all sugars convert to blood sugar equally, and that honey actually contains 50% more sugar per teaspoon than table sugar despite its added nutrients. Several members shared that they've eliminated sweeteners entirely from their tea and coffee, finding that beverages taste better without them once they adjusted, while others use alternatives like stevia, monk fruit blends, or small amounts of cream to reduce carb intake. A recurring theme was that managing blood sugar requires understanding that sugar is sugar regardless of source, with many members prioritizing carb count over perceived healthiness when making sweetener choices.

I use cream in my tea. Sometimes I use half a portion of honey in my tea. That is 3 carbs, so it becomes a meal replacement for me.

Love cinnamon too but to much and I get nose bleeds. I use nut pods French vanilla creamer but no sugar in it so I add a few drops of stevia. It’s zero carbs and 10 cal a Tablespoon. I use a monk fruit allulose blend or monk fruit erythritol blend as my sweetener. I gave up honey and maple syrup as soon as I was diagnosed as T2. Choc zero makes a pretty decent tasting sugar free maple syrup and wholesome yum has a sugarfree honey that’s good.

In any case coffee and tea taste better without any sort of sweeteners as you can actually taste the beverage! It takes a little time to get used to it but now if anyone accidentally puts sugar or other sweeteners in my beverage I go YUK!!!!
