It's a statin for cholesterol management - I take atorvastatin (Lipitor)
There is a number of potential side effects to taking a statin but they are not very common
In addition to the couple you note they have also been known to cause muscle pain in some users
At least in Canada within a couple weeks of starting a statin the Doc is advised to get a blood test to check your Creatinine Kinase levels - if they are normal (you) will have no trouble taking the statin
If you can't there is other options (different drug class) but it is not as effective and has it's own list of side effects
But they do help with cholesterol to try and prevent a stroke or heart disease - the biggest killer of Type 2's, so worth the "protection" if you can tolerate the stuff
I have been on a statin for almost 8 years - not even a hiccup or a hangnail
I have been using it for 8 years. No unintentional weight loss. And my blood glucose readings are in the nondiabetic range of 4.0(72 usa) to 7.8(140 usa).
I see no problems. But then again I eat within my carb tolerance per meal.
Good luck.
I have been on statins 10 years or more. Switched 2xs because of muscle pain. The third one was the charm. Lipitor 10 mg. All drugs have side effects. Some is milder than others.
