Members reassured someone frustrated by morning blood sugar readings of 156 despite an A1C of 6.3, explaining that overnight highs are common as the body works while resting and that stress itself can worsen blood sugar control. Several members shared practical strategies including eating a small bedtime snack of nuts or cheese to prevent the liver from overcompensating, stopping food intake by 6 pm, and taking medications before checking morning numbers. A recurring theme was the importance of not obsessing over daily fluctuations, celebrating already-good control, and remembering that Type 2 diabetes is unpredictable and becomes harder to manage with age.

I get occassional highs and there is no rhyme or reason to it as far as I can tell. I do stop eating by 6 pm.....when I dont my morning is higher...but that isnt always the case....I would say just do the best you can...DONT stress...it might actually be the problem....if your other numbers are low...unless you are trying to lower your a1c...your numbers are good...below 7....

Hi Nana, your numbers are pretty good, but I get about wanting lower numbers in the morning. Stressing about it can make it harder to bring the numbers down. Maybe try testing at lunchtime for a while, just to get out of the same routine, then go back to the mornings. Also a small bedtime snack might help as well. I usually have a small snack between 8 & 9 pm. Good luck! 💚

@A DiabetesTeam Member If I had your a1c I'd be very happy. We can sometimes become too obsessed with our readings and T2 Diabetes is a very unpredictable condition.

I worry a little about your concern because as you get older it gets increasingly difficult to maintain good control. Not that this is an excuse to give up but you'll need to work harder.
