Members shared mixed experiences about how caffeine affects their diabetes, with the vast majority reporting no impact on blood sugar when drinking black coffee or unsweetened tea, though a few noted that coffee raised their glucose levels or caused other issues like heart palpitations or digestive upset. Several members emphasized the importance of drinking coffee without sugar and using alternatives like stevia or monk fruit, with many consuming multiple cups daily (ranging from 1 to 12 cups) without any negative effects on their A1C or daily readings. A recurring theme was that individual responses vary widely, so members encouraged each other to monitor their own body's reactions, with some switching to decaf to avoid sleep disruption or other side effects while others found that caffeine had no negative impact at all.

@A DiabetesTeam Member some diabetics see a blood sugar rise from coffee, I drink upwards of 12 X 8oz coffee a day and my A1C is always below 6.0 and I have never taken a med - so Coffee has no "negative" effect on my diabetes management

I'm a coffee snob and have had to cut my caffeine consumption back. It hurts but had to be done. I went from 8 cups a day to 2.
Cut out caffeine laced drinks and my glucose readings have come down.

As a diuretic it may cause a blood sugar rise "in some people" - data that I have seen shows that it is more common in the occasional coffee drinker then the habitual, but you have to "see" how it effects YOU

I drink between 8 and 12 coffee's a day (8oz = 1 coffee) and it does NOTHING to my blood sugar at all, but if don't get a coffee or two in me within the first couple hours of the day, I get blinding headaches (caffeine withdrawal)

No way what so ever. It's the sugars that effect your sugar level
