I personally do both and more.
There is significance in both for treatment protocols.

When diagnosed with diabetes in February 2021, my new doctor asked for morning fasting blood glucose number one day and 2 hour after beginning eating the next. I usually chose to do the 2 hour number after my most carb laden meal of the day.

My insurance would only cover 50 test strips a month for a $20.00 copay. I decided I needed many more data points than that to gain control of my diabetes journey, so I bought a test strips out of pocket.

When diagnosed with diabetes, I began an ultralow carb right eating lifestyle. That I still do today.

I hope this answers your question.
How can we help and support you today.

Never give up, never surrender, never ever.
You got this.
Have a wonderful day.

@A DiabetesTeam Member I do both, but if I could only afford to do one reading, I'd choose the 2 hrs after a meal. The reason is that I can directly influence that number by carefully choosing what I eat, whereas I have little direct impact on my fasting blood glucose. As a prediabetic who takes no diabetes meds, I've come to believe the fasting number is an indication of how healthy my liver is-and it is taking time to change that, without taking drugs for diabetes.
