Hi. Can Type 2 Convert To Type 1? Thanks
Good morning warriors and @A DiabetesTeam Member.
Rarely does a diagnosed type 2, later have a LADA diagnosis. But Late onset autoimmune diabetes (type 1) does happen. I have seen 3 out of 7400 of my team members on this site diagnosed with LADA.
But much more common are insulin dependent type 2 diabetics. Many Type 2s are uncontrolled diabetics and their diabetes advances faster than those that do control their diabetes journey.
Many diabetics with much lower diabetes progression than me choose to inject insulins so they eat what they want and compensate with both long acting and fast acting insulin.
When diagnosed diabetic in February 2021 with a A1C of 13.5, my doctor wanted me on long acting insulin, quick acting insulin, and metformin. I negotiated a 3 month reprieve without diabetes medications. If I could get my A1C down to 6.1 over that time I could buy another 3 months without medications.
I met that goal and more and am still without diabetic medications. But I am doing most of the hard work and cut my carbs to 5-8 carbs per meal. I know of almost no one else on this site that has done that carb restriction for this long.
Just being insulin dependent does not mean you are the autoimmune type 1. People with destroyed or removed pancreas, produce no insulin but are not type 1. Juvenile Diabetes was what we used to call all type 1s.
Is that education what you needed to know. Baby steps.
Fantastic answer. That took a lot of courage. Well done
Hi There How Do You Know Whether You Are Type 1 Or 2 Of Diabetics?
I've Been On Insulin For About Three Years Now But Still Haven't Known The Difference Between The Diabetes 1&2.
Why Is It That We Talk Mostly Abt Type 2 Diabetes Not Also Abt Type 1?
