I use a combination of weight or resistance training and aerobic. I do a lot of walking and stationary bike work. I would be curious to hear from those who exercise if you have more success exercising before a meal, after or in-between and best exercises for before bedtime to help lower fasting bg? Thanks.
I have a Bowflex M3 which is a hybrid stair climber/elliptical that can really whack down the blood sugar if I'm looking to drop it quickly, so much so that I only use it "after a meal"
I have no idea how to effect "tomorrows" fasting number by doing anything today/tonight and I have tried extensively.
I have also read every study I could find on effecting FBS and all of them tend to indicate that it is a "long process" and not a do this "today" see that "tomorrow" because FBS is driven by hormones causing a sugar release from the liver.
But given that sleep and more specifically deep sleep for an adequate period of time (total sleep time of 6 to 7 hours) will reduce the intensity of the hormones that do drive FBS any exercise (or yoga or meditation etc) that you could do before bed to help you relax so you fall/stay asleep would have a positive effect tomorrow morning.
FBS control is not about limiting carbs (unless your insulin production is so poor that you are practically producing none) or not eating a cookie before bed but rather optimizing overall metabolism so that there is less demand for stored sugar to fuel the processes (or take metformin to help limit what the liver will release or a long acting (Basil) night time insulin to deal with the excess sugar released by the liver.
I always look for a blood glucose number around 120(6.7) before exercising. If lower I have a measured snack to bring me to the range. I do walk for 10-15 minutes immediately after eating meals too.
When I am doing stairs 2000 real stairs is 1000 up, 1000 down.
Bicycling in the cold, I often wear a baklava and sometimes a triple layer mask to warm the air. Walking in the cold, I wear the mask.
I do resistance training on my bowflex or at the gym with my Bride. The water aerobics is with my Bride at the gym.
Baby steps.
Personally I find that the regular walks for exercise around the streets and footpaths here and walking quickly with big steps has helped me to get fit and lose weight with a controlled diet have helped me to not only lose weight around 6 kilos this year and I have lost centimetres off my body and lowered my blood sugar levels to around 5 fasting. I am able to walk up to 5 kilometres several days a week and I am feeling great too!

I love the red flowers on the Poinciana trees around here
Correct... I discovered that any form of exercise, has to be consistent, yes treadmill and stationary bike helps and walking helps however its done by working into a daily routine or it does not help much, tc.
I love to anything to keep my butt going; walking; aerobics; swimming weights; cutting the lawn shoveling the driveway gardening etc. I find the same old routine will bore me and I need to freshen it up.
