Hi,
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I was wondering does anyone else have muscle spams?
I’m also considering asking my Endocrinologist about trying the Omni Pod, is anyone else taking using that? Also, my doctor wants to try me on Ozempic.

Members connected over experiencing muscle spasms with type 2 diabetes, with many noting that low magnesium levels can be a contributing factor, particularly for those taking acid reflux medications like Nexium which can deplete magnesium. Several members shared their experiences with magnesium supplementation at varying doses, emphasizing the importance of getting levels tested by a doctor rather than self-supplementing, as magnesium can interact with other medications and needs proper monitoring. A recurring theme was that muscle spasms often worsen at night, and members encouraged checking both magnesium and potassium levels with healthcare providers to identify and address the root cause.

make sure potassium is checked and follow, high potassium can lead to multiple issues

I have heard of a lot of people with muscle spasms relating to diabetes but there are other causes of muscle spasms so I would discuss them with my doctor

I use magox (I buy it at Walmart) & that seems to help quite a bit.

I have muscle spasms since before being diagnosed diabetic, but they are worse since. It was discovered 5 years ago that my magnesium levels were extremely low, so I was put on magnesium supplements, at the time my GI doctor told me it was because of the Nexium so he made me slowly decrease the Nexium (many anti-acid medications can decrease magnesium levels). A few years later in 2018 I started getting GI issues again, in 2019 my magnesium levels were low again and I was put back on them as following a G scope I required taking Nexium again. But we had to bump Nexium up to twice a day as I had severe erosion of my esophagus. A few weeks later I was on sick leave for a shoulder injury and had a bad fall and then an ulcer appeared on my toes from a little scrape from the fall. I now had an A1C of 11.9 and my sugar levels were high, but it was also discovered my magnesium had gotten even lower. Apparently in some diabetic patients low magnesium may cause increase in sugar level and muscle spasms, also an injury or wound can increase sugar levels and stress of any kind also. So as Endo told me I had the perfect storm waiting to happen as I was also on steroids and that brings sugar levels up.

You may want to discuss with your doctor to check your magnesium levels, you may need to be prescribed magnesium supplements as i am on. Every time they try and stop my anti-acid medications the acid reflux comes back with a vengeance and then the viscous cycle starts all over again.
