Hey Edgar,

There isn't a single answer as each of us is different. I've gotten different answers from different "experts". I was on 45 carb meals and 15 carb snacks and my sugar was pretty well managed (I am also on Metformin) but I wanted to loose weight and my exercise is somewhat limited as I've had 4 surguries on my ankle but still have a lot of pain when I walk. The weight just didn't come off. My doctor said she has begun to believe the ADA overestimates how many carbs are really optimum for a diabetic. I cut my carbs to 90 to 120 per day and the weight started coming off ...but must confess I'm frequently hungry. During this snow and cold snap I'm beginning to put the weight back on as I'm getting even less exercise and can't get out for fresh produce which was a very large part of my diet. (I also find this weather depressing and am turning into a couch potatoe!)
I'd suggest that you discuss this with your PCP or diabetes doctor or a dietician to figure out what is best for you as I believe the numbers are based on things like your weight, exercise level, blood sugar numbers etc.

I would talk to your Dr. or Diabetes Educator about that. We all need a different amount of carbohydrates. If you are on too low of carbs, that isn't good either. I have been on approximately 45 grams of carbs per meal (sometimes I miss lunch)....it all depends on what your health care professional's think and how you feel. I have had 3 Diabetes specialists tell me NOT to go on a low, low carb diet. Your brain needs some carbs to keep working correctly too. It also depends on what kind of carbs you eat too. There are good ones and bad ones. Ya know.

What other people do is what is good for them, not necessarily good for you. We are all different. Sorry, I had to add that. I felt bad about some of the comments.

The amount of carbs per day or per meal is affected by many things like: gender, body size etc. The best place to find what is good for you is from your diabetic educator or diabetic nutritionist or your doctor if you don't have the other people that I mentioned. My diabetic nutritionist has me on 45 carbs per meal and 15 carbs per snack in between the meals.

20 or less a day.
small apple and small orange 3-4 times daily, 4 bottles of water, oatmeal, 1 slice whole wheat bread, 1/3 cup brown or wild rice, 1/3 cup beans and 1/2 cup lowfat milk.

Check with your meter if your'e going to try any of these, as they spike many people.
All of them would spike me high, other than the water.

Low Fat HighCarb is what I and a lot of others use to help.Full Fat milk lots of healthy fats.Vegetables(no root vegetables (will spikke) meat eggs cheese butter evoo.A lot of things to eat on a low carb diet.Google LCHF or KETO.

My diabetic doctor had told me 50 carbs for meals and 30 carbs for snacks, just read food labels or ask google.
