I’ve had diabetes for about 3 years and struggling to keep numbers in control. IIt helps to walk I noticed but need a little more motivation some how. I’m tired a lot and not getting any younger I’m 50 and work full time. Just got a Fitbit for Christmas so I’ve been trying to move more. Any tips or feedback is appreciated thanks!!

Members rallied around someone seeking motivation to manage their Type 2 diabetes, sharing both the sobering reality of potential complications and the hopeful message that movement, even in small amounts, truly helps. Several members described creative exercise solutions that fit their busy lives, including water aerobics with post-workout whirlpool rewards, competitive ping pong matches with a spouse, and mall walking for both activity and entertainment, with many acknowledging the exhaustion that comes from working full-time while managing diabetes. A recurring theme was the importance of grace and realistic expectations, with members encouraging each other not to compare themselves to their younger selves or others, to celebrate any amount of movement as better than none, and to lean on community support as accountability partners in the daily effort to stay healthy.

My doc wants me to exercise 4x a week for 45 mins. This is really hard. I'm not lazy by any means so my husband and I play ping pong 4x a day 3 out 5. It's fun and competitive. I lost 30 lbs when I found out I was diabetic so now it is serious and I feel sluggish. Wish me luck!!

I hear you sister. I have recently committed to going to water aerobics twice a week and once a week for weight lifting. But like today, I was extremely tired after working yesterday. I am a demonstrator. It was really hard to get to my class. But I made it, 20 minutes late. The whirlpool and steam room after really help motivate me. But, I am EXTREMELY tired after. I tend to over eat when that happens but I guess it's better then not going at all. Good luck to you Irene and I'd be glad to be a cheerleader for you if you want to be one for me. I've been suffering with diabetic sugar levels for 6 years. So far, I'm just on oral meds and don't want to cross over to insulin.

Type 2 is a progressive, chronic disease that leads to amputation, Alzheimers, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and dialysis, blindness, pains in legs and feet, death, etc. Enough motivation for me, how about you? I follow a LCHF diet and my numbers are in normal range, A1C 5.4. Pains in feet gone, eye sight improved.

I was an athletic person most of my life but started to lead a more sedentary life as I got older. Now I have Diabetes II. It's normal to feel a little lazy from time to time. What I try to do is any length of walking or exercising - 10 minutes might not make a big difference but it is better than doing nothing. I like to walk in some of the big malls - the people watching keeps me interested in being there and walking. Don't compare yourself to anyone else doing the same things as you - we might look similar but we might differ a lot in general health etc. My biggest challenge is accepting that I can't so what I once did because I am not in the physical condition I was at age 20 (I am 66) - I have to remind myself that I am not trying to look younger I am trying to enjoy my leife more comfortably.
