I log everything I eat, counting the carbs, fat, proteins I intake. I work with the pharmacist to see what's working and what isn't. Because I recently was diagnosed with GERDS (gastoperisis) my insulin regiment had to change. Logging everything helped me take control of my sugars and made me aware of what I put in my mouth.

I am lousy at staying on a "@diet". I keep my carbs under the carb budget and eat healthy foods in healthy proportions most of the time. Lost 40 pounds, got my blood sugar a1c from 14.7 to 5.5 (average over several tests ) and got off my meds.

@A DiabetesTeam Member just be careful. Stress and other medications can affect blood sugars.
On July 21, 2016 I was informed then that I had Autoimmune Hepatitis. I had been doing low carb, the stress of the news sent me into Ketoacedosis. I spent a week in ICU. Since then I'm very careful what I eat, and always make sure my meals are balanced.

I was on Metformin as well as Januvia. I asked my doc if I could reduce dose and go on a more holistic approach. She basically laughed it off - which is the last day I saw that group. Made a decision right there to better control and change what was happening without the meds. You know what it works - it may not be right for everyone but at least discuss with your healthcare provider. Don't be shy about asking about short and long term effects of the meds you are on. It is your body and your life -
