There's a lot of controversy these days about wether T2 can be reversed or not. I believe you can achieve a state of remission with careful diet and exercise and meds when needed, but you can never go back to the carefree ways that helped get you here. I m a couch potato, carbaholic. I currently have good control, but I have to keep moving and will never be able to indulge in pastry and bread as I used to. Occasionally, yes, but those times are few and far between. If you really want to control this beast, you have to make lifestyle changes and stick with them.
Being overweight is only one component to the diabetes problem and there is speculation about which comes first. Losing weight will definitely help, but it won't cure diabetes. You are insulin resistant. Your body is not using the insulin you make efficiently. The short answer is diabetes is for life. You can control it, but you will never again be totally free of it it will be waiting, lurking, for you to slip up.
Don't fall in to the trap of people telling you just a little won't hurt. It will. All the little bits add up and pretty soon you're back to old , bad habits. You are in charge. You say what goes into your body. It isn't easy, at least for me, but I want to be around for another 20+ years, so I keep trying.
Yes, it is serious. I also have kidney damage, though not as z result of diabetes. It doesn't really matter how I got it, but it is an extra concern now as uncontrolled diabetes can make it worse. In the space of less than 6 mos, I went from normal to stage 3 chronic kidney disease. It was very hard for me of accept and scares me more than diabetes. My nephrologist is excellent though and assures me I'm good for a long time on what I have. From her lips to Gods ears.
thank you for being honest you've answered a lot questions I had I m greatly concerned my doctor just informed me that this beast has begun to damage my kidneys I know how serious this I am trying to educate myself on everything I can some of my friends don't know what type of diabetes they have this is a very serious disease thanks again
I know you posted this some time ago, but I just joined this site. If you Aic stays under 5.7 then you would be considered pre diabetic. Your daily reads are a snapshot of one moment in time. A1c is a picture of what's going on for the last 2-3 mos. Even if you achieve this or better and come off your meds, you will never be able to return to your former eating habits. In that sense you will always be diabetic. Uncontrolled diabetes can eventually lead to loss of limbs and other nasty complications and sometimes they can happen even to people who have good control. Being just flat footed....not so much.
I think that below 130, it is possible to be changed to prediabetic. I'm curious to know how and when this would be diagnosed.
