Members discussed what tests are used to detect fatty liver disease, with many noting that liver enzyme tests like AST and ALT are often included in routine yearly bloodwork, such as a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel. Several members shared personal stories of elevated liver enzymes linked to gallbladder removal, daily Tylenol use, and diabetes, with one member successfully lowering their levels by losing 20 pounds. A recurring theme was frustration with healthcare systems feeling reactive rather than proactive, alongside concern about whether all recommended tests are truly necessary.

My Bride had a problem with her liver numbers after 3 months of analgesics to temper the pain in her knees and hip.

She stopped the analgesics and in 3 months her numbers were much better.

I have never had this test myself as I live in Canada I do not think there is any benefit to ordering more tests than someone might need. They act in a reactive way rather than proactive so need to already be exhibiting symptoms of a condition before they actually do testing.

How much of these tests are really necessary and how much is it just to line the pockets of the health industry?

@A DiabetesTeam Member My nephew has it. He was having jaundice really bad. He does have high cholesterol that he takes shots for. He is type 2 and very obese. He does the Ozempic but it hasn't helped his weight. He still has his gallbladder
The jaundice is how they found his.

I have been taking acetaminophen arthritis. I take within the daily recommended dose. My doctor said using acetaminophen even in the recommended daily limit can still mess with liver enzymes.
My uncle got very jaundice. I took him to the hospital. He was diagnosed with Gilberts syndrome.
He started having liver issues after he had his gallbladder removed. But he does take Tylenol daily, and has for years
