I eat 2-3 net carbs per meal. I eat 1-2 meals per day. I eat meat, eggs, very low carb vegetables.
I eat 4-6 net carbs per day. I walk 4-6 miles every day.
I too am extremely insulin resistant. After being on oral prednisone for 5 months to heal my lungs. I had pulmonary embolisms. I am also on high dose blood thinners for the rest of my life.
In the past I recovered from oral steroids that I took for a week to 3 weeks in about a week. My numbers came down to my normal.
This time it is taking what seems like forever. It's been 7 months since discontinuing oral prednisone.
I was doing Jardiance 25 mg. 80 units long acting insulin, 105 units fast acting insulin daily for more than 5 months. I was fingersticking 12x a day even duringthenight.
I was afraid of overdosing on insulins. My numbers ran in the 6.1(110 USA) to 8.9 (160 USA). I was eating no more than 2-3 net carbs per meal.
I was referred to an endocrinologist, it took 4 months to get an appointment.
He was totally baffled by my insulin loading. He ran bloodwork for genetic and other testing. He said I needed to get my insulin loading down. He also said he would do the paperwork to get Medicare to pay for a cgm.
He made a 2nd appointment in a month for me. I thought about it and decided the quickest way for me to drop my insulin loading down was to eliminate meals.
So since I had read Dr Jason Fungs book, The Diabetes Code. And since I have fasted for 3-4 days 8 times a year for 42 years. I decided intermittent fasting was the way to go.
So I started by fasting for 19 hours after finishing dinner by 5 pm. So my eating window was between noon and 5 pm. I ate my 1st meal between noon and 1 pm. And my 2nd meal between 4 and 5 pm.
After a week I cut back to 1 meal a day. Some time between 22 to 24 hours fasting. Then it was 24 hour fasting and 1 meal..
That lowered my fast acting insulin loading to 35 units a day. And I slowly dropped my long acting insulin to the same 35 units, a couple of days before seeing my endocrinologist.
He had planned on starting Mounjaro, but declined when he saw my new insulin loading of 30 units long acting insulin and 25 units fast acting insulin. And my elimination of the Metformin he prescribed a month before.
He said to drop down my long acting insulin to 25 units in a day or 2 and see what happens. He made my next appointment for 3 months. In a week I dropped my insulin loading to zero. In a month I dropped my Jardiance loading to half.
I messaged him in My Chart that I was on no insulin and at half dosage on Jardiance. And would be at clinical remission levels in a month.
He replied that he wanted me to continue Jardiance for its cardiovascular and heart protection.
I have two meals a day (no snacks) - one at around 1-2pm and the other around 9pm. I usually exercise a lot (mostly walking) but recently for various reasons that has not been so regular with inevitable impact on my bgs.
My carb consumption is usually around 10mg a day.
I'm on 40mg Gliclazide a day and 1000mg Metformin a day.
@A DiabetesTeam Member Lol, definitely not dead!
So if I've got this right you only eat meat and fats?
I'm on a very low carb diet around 10g-15g per day but I find it difficult as my body struggles to cope with such low carbs. I've been on this diet for over a year now.
I'm severely insulin resistant hence the need for low carbs. Exercise helps a lot.
Any carbs I eat are converted into triglycerides. I learned that 20 years ago.
So to keep my triglycerides in check, I eat no carbs.
The processed foods are rough on my triglycerides.
