AI gave great advice. Metformin does cause weight loss, as insulin resistance is common in type 2. Most diabetes meds are designed to help lose weight. Also common in type 2 is weight. Losing weight can be a game changer in controlling the beast. Do make sure to have those regular B12 labs drawn as it does deplete B12. Good luck ❤️

Weight loss while taking metformin is actually quite common and can be a welcome side effect for many people with type 2 diabetes! Metformin can help with weight management, which in turn makes blood sugar easier to control. Here are a few things worth keeping in mind:

- Appetite changes — Metformin can reduce appetite, which may naturally lead to eating less and losing weight
- Blood sugar stability — Better blood sugar control from metformin can also contribute to gradual weight loss
- Nutrient absorption — Metformin can reduce how well your body absorbs vitamin B12, so it's worth asking your doctor to check your B12 levels regularly However, if the weight loss feels rapid or unexpected, it's important to flag this with your doctor. Unintended significant weight loss can sometimes signal that blood sugar isn't well controlled.

A good rule of thumb — keep attending regular check-ups and blood work appointments so your doctor can monitor how everything is working together and adjust your treatment plan if needed.
