I have found myself needing to use a food shelf once or twice each month. I have exhausted all other options for obtaining food. Most food shelves only provide high carb and high sugar foods. At some shelves you do not get the option of choosing the food you receive. I am a carb/sugaraholic and really struggle with making good choices. It's like a kid in a candy shop.

For a food pantry where they give what they have you use it and watch your portions. Eating is better then going hungry.

@Jolyne I think most people love carbs. I miss my pasta but it is what it is. Drinking coffee has helped me. With caffeine and without. For me there's no options. If I don't want my body to betray me I need to be strict with myself. Some people can be moderate and that's the best way to go I think but I cannot and I've learned this over and over. Like Lays potato chips I can't have just one.

Our Baptist church houses the Pitman food pantry. It is open for 2 hours 3 days a week. They prepare and give away 2 large bags of groceries to families every week. It serves at least 150 families a week.

Our church maintains a blessing box near the sidewalk. It is stocked every day. It says if you need a meal take it. If you have extra shelf stable foods leave it.

We also prepare and give away 300... 5-7 course meals 2 Mondays a month to feed families. Sign up for each of them online and say how many you are feeding. Pick them up between 4-6:30 pm

The Catholic Church in town has a food pantry 1 day a week by appointment.

The Presbyterian church has a dinner for all who come 1 Wednesday a month.

The Methodist Church hosts a Senior Luncheon every week.

There are 2 boxes outside of people's homes, like the little library boxes that house food.

Then there is the Pitman Grove. In the center of the clock layout of sidewalks is a table that people staff to distribute produce that gardeners bring.

We also give away our gardens bounty to family, people walking the sidewalks, neighbors, and delivery people.

We also support 4 families every month with groceries . Usually after the 20th of the month when their cupboards are bare.

Nobody needs to go hungry in our community.
