Pre-diabetic for about 12 years and now PCP recommending Metformin. Already on a medication for osteoporosis whereby I did not receive proper information which has caused me to have a fracture that could have been avoided if provider knew more about the medication she/he prescribed. So, is Metformin a life-time medication?
All Anti-Diabetic Meds including the Metormin, Ozempic, Jardiance and the dozens of others INCLUDING Insulin do not have to be forever
But it comes down to how radically are you willing to change your diet and possibly other habits to avoid going on or continuing to use Metformin
If you have been pre-diabetic for 12 years and are now at the point where the Doc believes (based on lab tests obviously) that "it's time" that is telling you that how you have managed for the past dozen years is NO LONGER ENOUGH so either you need to change something or you need to take the meds
Taking metformin as a Pre-Diabetic, typically in low dose, helps prevent onset of full blown Type 2 by upwards of 10 to 15 years
But only you can decide what is best for you given your situation, age, tollerance for meds etc so discuss all your concerns with your Doctor
Did you ask the Doctor "why" they want to prescribe now? and get an explanation you understood - they know your medical history etc
Remember, your Doc works FOR YOU
You can say NO but you need to fully understand the potential consequence if that is what you choose to do...
@A DiabetesTeam Member I brought up the same issue when we were beta testing the AI
I guess it just means we can be wrong in our explanation or opinion 😁
I suspect that this AI is flawed. It often quotes me as a vetted scientific source. I've shared this with the administrators multiple times.
It still quotes me.
T2 can go into remission. I currently am not taking any diabetes meds. My A1C is an awesome 5.5
Henry was in remission for years and a few others have gone into remission. You can do it to.
Henry had a good reason for starting diabetes medicine.
GrahamLamb is currently in remission. He never needed meds
He took the beast head on..
I was just doing Metformin and recently titrated off of it. So it is not for life. If you are willing to do what's necessary.
