Great question! Medicare coverage for CGMs can be tricky, especially depending on what medications you're taking.

Traditionally, Medicare required people to be on insulin to qualify for a covered CGM. However, coverage rules have been evolving. As of 2024, the FDA approved an over-the-counter CGM for people with type 2 diabetes who don't take insulin — meaning it can be purchased without a prescription. Here's a quick breakdown of what to keep in mind:

- Prescription CGMs are typically covered by Medicare only for people who use insulin
- Over-the-counter CGMs became available in 2024 and don't require a prescription or insulin use
- Glipizide and other sulfonylureas are not insulin, so Medicare may not automatically cover a prescription CGM based on that medication alone
- Insurance rules vary, so it's worth calling Medicare directly or speaking with your doctor to check your specific eligibility

The best step is to talk with your doctor or a Medicare representative to find out exactly what's covered under your plan. Policies are changing, and there may be more options available than before!

The Philippines Medicare does not cover CGM costs. We fend for ourselves if one can afford it. It is true each country have their own set of rules or benefits (or the lack of it). Regards to DT family.

The rules vary in different countries. And in the US even though medicare is federal it varies by state. Also if you have a supplement to your medicare they may pic up what medicare will not. Also rules evolve. So keep asking your insurance
