A1C ranges.

Remember that 5.6 is still in the nondiabetic range. 5.7-6.4 is the prediabetic range. 6.5+ is the diabetic range.

Exceptional control - A1C 5.7 or less
Good Control - A1C 5.8-6.4
Fair Control - A1C 6.5-6.9

That being said --- A1C is a 90 day average of your blood glucose levels.

It's not wise to place too much weight on a1c tests as there can be significant variability amongst labs.

It's useful as a guide along with continuous glucose monitoring and finger prick testing. Each are part of the jigsaw but none of them can give the whole picture on their own.

Mine is 5.6
But remember this is an average (sorta) so does not mean you did not experience highs or lows.

@A DiabetesTeam Member Yes, if the higher readings become chronic I would need to contact my doctor. Usually, if my reading is high it's because I wasn't following my regimen. The point that I was making is that I try not to let my numbers dictate what my feelings will be.

I agree and don't agree. No use getting hysterical about it but I think I'd ask myself what caused the high and take action if appropriate.
