Why are you experiencing low blood sugar in the morning after reversing prediabetes?
Even though you've successfully reversed your prediabetes diagnosis, your body may still be adjusting to how it regulates blood sugar. Low blood sugar upon waking can happen for several reasons that aren't necessarily related to having Show Full Answer

Thank you as always my Nan ❤️🙏
Congratulations on your achievement. I hope this helps...
Even after reversing prediabetes, waking low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can happen due to reactive hypoglycemia (your body over-releasing insulin after a meal), hormonal shifts, certain medications, excessive alcohol, or underlying issues like liver/kidney problems, but it's crucial to see your doctor to rule out rarer causes like insulin resistance syndromes or tumors, as it indicates an imbalance needing professional diagnosis.
Common Reasons for Waking Low Blood Sugar
Reactive/Post-Meal Hypoglycemia: Your body might still release too much insulin after you eat, causing blood sugar to drop a few hours later or overnight.
Medications: Some prescriptions, even non-diabetes ones, can cause low blood sugar.
Alcohol: Drinking alcohol, especially before bed, can impact blood sugar.
Skipping Meals/Diet: Going too long without food, or not enough carbs before bed, can lead to a drop.
Hormonal Changes: Stress, adrenal, or pituitary issues can affect glucose regulation.
Liver or Kidney Issues: These organs play a role in blood sugar balance.
Less Common, More Serious Causes (Need Medical Check-Up)
Insulin Resistance Syndromes: Conditions where your body has anti-insulin antibodies.
Tumors: Rare tumors (like insulinomas in the pancreas) can produce excess insulin.
What to Do
Consult Your Doctor: This is the most important step to get a proper diagnosis, as low blood sugar needs treatment and long-term management.
Track Your Symptoms: Note when you feel low (e.g., hours after eating, in the morning) and what you ate/drank.
Check Your Diet: Ensure balanced meals, include protein/fat with carbs, and avoid skipping meals.
Your reversal of prediabetes shows great progress, but this new symptom needs investigating to find its specific cause.

Thank you my Nan. 🤗
I do eat around midnight and try to be asleep by 2am.
That’s when I have my quiet time 🙏
I’ve emailed your link to myself and I appreciate your concern.
Love you ❤️❤️
@A DiabetesTeam Member.
I track our middle baby boy's blood glucose numbers regularly. Before eating, at an hour post meal, and at 2.
He is not diabetic.
Before meals, often as low as 3.7(66 USA).
Sometimes as low as 72 USA at 1 hour.
Often as low as 66 at 2 hours.
At 3 hours in the mid to high 70s.
So touching the hypo range is normal for those that are normal. Especially for those that eat carb laden meals. More useful insulin released. More of a drop in numbers.
He has no hypo symptoms.
Good luck.
