Members agreed that canned beans, often loaded with sugar and carbs in their sauce, can cause significant blood sugar spikes and should be portioned carefully or avoided altogether. Several members shared practical low-carb alternatives they rely on, including homemade almond flour or flaxmeal breads, limiting bread to one slice of whole wheat, and using a microwave to make quick egg sandwiches or 90-second English muffins. A recurring theme was the importance of reading labels, testing individual foods to see their personal impact, and seeking resources like diabetes education classes or low-carb microwave cookbooks to build confidence in managing blood sugar through food choices.

Larry, Given the way you've been describing your meals, I have a suggestion. You can take it or leave it - up to you. Our county senior group offers diabetes education classes about 4 times per year. I usually go about every three years for a brush up on what I think I know. The classes are free and are once a week for 6-8 weeks. Is there something like that in your area? You might find it helpful.

@A DiabetesTeam Member if you like beans try testing then eat 1 serving of beans, test 2 hours after to see how the beans only affect your sugars. You may be able to eat a small portion of beans with other low carb foods.

The sauce in canned beans can often be loaded with sugar. Always check the ingredients on the can to see the sugar and carbohydrate content.

Excellent advice here. Leg I'm going to see what Kindle books has in the way of microwave cooking. Thanks everyone.
