Members rallied around someone navigating the challenge of managing high cholesterol while trying to avoid weight loss, with many relating to the struggle of being told they're too thin while focusing on heart health. Several members shared practical dietary strategies, including switching from cheese to canned fish like tuna, eating high-fiber foods like oats and beans, choosing original Cheerios to help lower cholesterol, and exploring high-protein low-sugar drinks as alternatives to regular Ensure. A recurring theme was the importance of working closely with doctors and dietitians to find a personalized balance, trusting your own body over outside opinions about weight, and making sustainable food choices that support both blood sugar and cholesterol goals without sacrificing overall health.

Congratulations on reversing your prediabetes! That's a significant achievement. However, managing cholesterol levels remains important since abnormal cholesterol can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular complications.

The good news is that cholesterol levels can be controlled through the same lifestyle approaches that helped you reverse prediabetes:
• Maintaining a healthy diet
• Regular exercise
• Achieving or maintaining a healthy weight Since you've already shown success with lifestyle changes to reverse prediabetes, you can apply similar dedication to managing your cholesterol. Work with your healthcare team to develop a specific plan that addresses both your cholesterol concerns while maintaining your success with blood sugar control. Regular monitoring and adjustments to your management plan can help ensure you're staying on track with both conditions.

@A DiabetesTeam Member Yes, Lorna. I thought if I ate cheese instead of food with high carb content I would be in the clear but all the sodium and saturated fat weren't doing me any good in another way. My only solution was to cut out as much carb as possible. I eat a lot of canned fish and chicken and cook lots of lentils and navy beans. I slice up zucchini, onion, bell pepper, etc and add to the broth I cook the beans in. I know you're more sophisticated than I am when it comes to cooking but with me I have to grit my teeth and abstain from the carbs as much as possible.

That’s a good idea. Thank you Margaret.
When I did attempt Ensure, I was horrified at the sugar content, after being diagnosed as a pre diabetic. 🤗💕
