I couldn’t agree with you more.
There are many scam sunscreen products on the shelves.
I go for the better brands, Vichy or Nivea UV face sensitive. 50 SPF.

I personally have had many basal cell carcinomas cut or frozen off but unfortunately, I also had to have 11 shots of radiation to kill one on my chest, after 4 years of conservative treatement.

A relative lost the lower lobe of his ear to basal cell carcinoma, (from the sun hitting his mirror in the car, and radiating to his ear, an employer lost his entire ear and part of his nose and because my husband and I and our children, grew up being in our swimming pool almost 10 months of the year, they are now having basil cell carcinomas cut out.
All these cases took years to manifest and become problematic.

UV in Africa, but particularly in South Africa, is more dangerous than many other countries (except Australia), due to a combination of factors, high altitude, sub-tropical climate, high latitude and also, the Southern Hemisphere is closer to the sun in summer. We receive more direct sunlight and therefore higher radiation.

I never step out of our home, without a hat, nor do my children.

Helpful comments Lorna and Nan, I can't really add any more to the debate except that I also know that some weel known brands of sunscreen are not as effective as others. I also need to be careful of my skin exposure to sunlight and as far as sunscreens go, I let the price determine how effective the product is.
