Steroids can significantly impact blood sugar control in several ways:

1. They reduce your body's sensitivity to insulin
2. They trigger the release of stored glucose into your bloodstream
3. They can make it harder for your body to manage blood sugar levels effectively

This is why people taking steroids often need to monitor their blood sugar more carefully and may require adjustments to their diabetes management plan. If you're prescribed steroids, it's important to:

- Work closely with your healthcare team to adjust your diabetes medications as needed
- Monitor your blood sugar levels more frequently
- Watch for unusual fluctuations in your readings
- Maintain healthy eating habits to help stabilize blood sugar

Remember to never stop taking prescribed steroids without consulting your doctor first.

It is a tough issue for many. They are stuck between treating one condition and thereby exacerbating another. My son has IBS and asthma both of which require steroids from time to time. His sugsr than goes very high-personally I think they should give him insulin along with the steroids . But dr say its only a short time but if you look back over a full yr its almost half the time he is taking steroids. They are going to try a biologic for his IBS. Praying it works.
