Ok here goes if you have the time to read this 🤑 These supplements MAY do what I claim they do - not WILL

Milk Thistle for liver and diabetes management
Garlic for lowering cholesterol
Lutein for reduction of risk of cataracts and age related macular edema
Plant sterols for management of cholesterol
Echinacea for reduction of symptoms of colds
Ginkgo Biloba to reduce the chance of vascular dementia (some might say I’m too late! 😀)
Saw Palmetto Complex to reduce the chances of prostate problems

Magnesium for diabetes management
Zinc for immune support
Selenium for immune support

Alpho Lipoic Acid for lowering cholesterol

Vitamin B Complex for diabetes management
Vitamin C to boost immune system
Vitamin D for management of diabetes

I take these 6 times a week with a one day break.

When I reach the end of a packet or container (or earlier if there’s a large amount) I take a break of about 1 - 2 weeks for two reasons

1) The body might get habituated to them

2) Even if they are of “natural” origins they can be extremely powerful so the body may need a rest from them.

I’m cautious about the benefits of these supplements (as I am to a certain degree with certain medications)* because of the “Snapping fingers and elephants” story which I relate below.

A man kept snapping his fingers all the time. Someone else asked him:

“Why do you do that?”

He said, “To keep the elephants away.”

“But the elephants are thousands of miles away!”

The man smiled.

“See, it works!”

*The medication I make an exception of is Gliclazide (a sulfonylurea) because if I forget to take it in the morning by afternoon my BGs are in double figures (or triple figures USA). That is a clear correlation especially when I unwittingly forget so can’t be attributed to some sort of reverse placebo effect.

Before discussing supplements for diabetes management, it's important to note that any supplements should be discussed with your healthcare provider first, as they can interact with diabetes medications and affect blood sugar levels.

The search results don't specifically address supplements, but they do highlight that proper nutrition through food sources can help manage diabetes. For example, probiotics found in yogurt have been shown to help reduce inflammation and improve insulin sensitivity, while also potentially lowering blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Rather than focusing primarily on supplements, consider working with your healthcare team to develop a comprehensive management plan that includes:

1. A balanced, nutritious diet
2. Regular blood sugar monitoring
3. Proper medication management
4. Regular exercise
5. Stress management

If you're interested in specific supplements, schedule an appointment with your doctor or diabetes educator to discuss which ones might be beneficial for your particular situation, as individual needs vary greatly.

I used to take milk thistle for my liver when I was over weight and had fatty liver. Milk thistle lowered my liver enzymes! But after losing 80 lbs I found I no longer needed that support.

I currently take Milk Thistle, a multi-strain Probiotic and Inulin Fiber supplements

I have previously taken Chromium, Apple Cider Vinegar (caplet form), Vitamin C, ALA and tried Turmeric but caused too many GI issues

I saw small but measurable benefits with the Chromium and ACV, and continue to see the same results I always have with the Milk Thistle - the probiotic/fiber is for overall digestive health and never tried to correlate it's use to blood sugar numbers
