Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) are a significant advancement in diabetes management. They allow for constant monitoring of blood sugar levels without the need for frequent finger sticks. Here are some key points about CGMs:
- Functionality: CGMs use a small detector implanted in the interstitial fluid under the skin to measure glucose levels.
- Data Integration: They can sync with smartphones through an app, providing real-time data and alerts.
- Ambulatory Glucose Profile: This feature helps doctors understand how often your blood sugar is in the normal, high, or low range.
- Accuracy: Interstitial fluid readings can be slightly delayed compared to blood glucose readings, especially after eating, exercising, or taking insulin. In such cases, a finger-stick test may be needed for confirmation.
