Members shared their varied experiences with Metformin-related diarrhea, confirming that side effects can indeed start months after beginning the medication, though they emphasized the importance of ruling out other causes like a stomach bug or dietary changes. Several members found relief by switching to Metformin ER (extended release), changing to alternative medications like Trulicity or Mounjaro, or maintaining a high-fiber diet with plenty of water. A recurring theme was the importance of keeping a food and medication log to identify patterns, taking Metformin with food, and consulting with a doctor if symptoms persist, with many members noting that while some experience significant gastrointestinal issues, others tolerate the medication well for years without problems.

Jureen, Just a comment from the other side. I take 100 mg pills twice a day and have been on Metformin for decades. I never had problems with it. I am saying so you know that not everyone does, but those of us that don't have problems don't complain about it. If you do I suggest that you talk to your doctor. But I don't know that preoblems with Metformin are as common as it seems.

I have been on Metformin for five years. I get diarrhea when I don't eat right or I missed my pill. I take 500 mg twice a day with my Novalin N Insulin. Metformin works great with me. Now I can't the Extended release because it tears my stomach apart. Log for a few days what you eat, what time you take your meds then go back and see the difference.
This is what I do everyday for the past five years. I know if I miss my Metformin I will have diarrhea the next day and it usually takes two days for me to get back on track. Try it.

Thank you all for your answers. I think it may be just a tummy bug (hopefully lol). I will keep an eye on the situation and if not better by tomorrow I will make contact with my dr.
