Pre my t2 diagnosis i suffered occasional gout attacks. I had associated it with purine rich food and basically cut down on meat. 6 months ago i was diagnosed with t2. This resulted in a radical diet change to lchf. Perhaps with a slight increase in red meat. The last 6 months have seen heavy gout flareups. My theory is that its to do with the weight loss in that 25% of weight loss is muscle and i suspect that the breakdown of muscle is the same as increased red meat consumption. I kind of… read more

Yes, there is a relationship between Type 2 and Gout and Rheumatoid Arthritis, and PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in Women along with a whole host of "others"

If the gout pre-dated your diabetes diagnosis then Gout all by itself increases your Type 2 "risk" by about 20% (which doesn't help when most have a truckload of other existing risks) and for women it's even worse (about 75% of women that develop Gout "will" develop Type 2)

Uric Acid seems to be the common factor so DRINK lots of non-alcoholic liquids - it will help flush the uric acid (releave the gout) AND help lower the concentration of blood sugar - two "evil birds", one stone

Yes and vice versa. Uric acid builds up and crystalizes in the joints,if the kidney's doesn't rid of it,causing gout, usually affecting the big toes first. Can be in any joint. Gout can cause T2,or T2 can cause gout. Red meat is the biggest culprit of gout.Do not let that uric acid build up,drink fluids (Sugar free) of course. The kidney's will expel the uric acid.
