Check the nutrition label - not all rye breads are created equal
I can handle maybe 35 carbs in a meal - two slices of Rye might come in at 25 leaving me 10 for the "rest of the meal" so maybe not where I want to spend it unless I'm eating a sandwich (with proteins and fats between the bread)
If you know how many carbs you can handle you CAN EAT whatever you want if you stay within that allowance - maybe just don't want to blow the whole thing on a single food item
Any bread, including the white flour and rye flour combination that is baked into what we call rye bread is fine if you limit your carbs to what you can tolerate.
Of course the whole grain rye bread, aka, devils fart, for obvious reasons, is better for you, but is tough to find in the USA and Canada. It's shelf life is about 6 months, and is so dense that half a slice, that is 1/3 as thick as a regular slice of bread, is 10 carbs.
When I was age 10, my father was stationed in Germany. Every German family kept a loaf of this bread, in case they could not get to the bakery for their morning brötchen. These little breads were wonderful, crusty on the outside and soft, full of flavor inside.
