If you are deficient in calcium, aside from being bad for a bunch of other reasons, low calcium can cause insulin resistance
So getting your levels "normal" might improve your average sugar numbers
But be careful, too much calcium (hypercalcemia) is a BAD thing, so don't "overdose" (1000-1200mg is "maximum")- and more than 2000mg a day is dangerous
A glass of milk is 125mg, a cup of fortified Almond Milk has almost 400mg (close to 1/2 what you need all day) a cup of broccoli is 40-50mg, 1 slice of Whole Wheat or Rye Bread is 30mg etc - we "should" be able to get all our calcium from what we eat with minimal planning
If you suspect your calcium levels are low ask your Doc to include a Calcium test the next time you do labs (can use the same blood as an A1C test as an example) and get a professionals recommendation
I take a Calcium/Magnesium supplement - I don't drink the milk or eat the "yucky green plants" 😁 so take a 333mg supplement - about 1/3 of what I need and get the rest from my wholegrain breads, cheese and nuts
It really depends on "what you are eating already" - often a dietitian can tell you whether you are likely deficient or not in a given vitamin or mineral, but since electrolytes (calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium) can be easily tested in a routine blood test, why not know for sure
