Are you taking a Statin and is it actually spiking your sugar?

Statins do "not" effect other anti-diabetes drugs at all - totally different methods of action that do not cross paths anywhere in the body

Statins "may" spike the sugar of some people with Atorvastatin (Lipitor) being the "most likely", but it really is just a few people (less than 9%)

I have been on a 20mg dose of Lipitor for "years" because it protects your cardiovascular system whether or not you need it and as a Diabetic you will almost certainly die from a Cardiovascular issue - so anything to lessen that risk

This is a blurb from the CDC (in my case the guidance from Diabetes Canada, which I follow, is identical)

Despite the risk, statin use is still recommended for many people with and without diabetes who have high blood cholesterol. This is because even though there are risks with taking this medicine, there are greater potential risks if you don’t take them, like having a heart attack or stroke. Remember everyone is different. It’s always best to talk to your doctor about your individual risks and benefits of taking statins.

If you are having a problem then discuss it with your doctor. If you need the cholesterol support there is alternatives but the side effects are way worse

I take mine first thing in the morning for eating/drinking anything - maybe that makes a difference??

I'm taking a generic for Crestor (rosuvastatin), 5 mg. My blood sugar readings have gone up about 30 points, even with a sensible diet! My doctor is only to happy to add other diabetic medicine to my routine. Don't want to be a walking pharmacy! Thinking of taking it in the a.m. and see if that makes a difference.
