People Who Take Jardiance Seem To Be Able To Eat Like A Normal Person
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

My friend takes Jardiance and seems to eat whatever he wants. I only take metformin and 2.5 mg of glipizide. I have to be very careful in what I eat.

The Jardiance would help you eat a little more (liberally)

It works by forcing the kidneys to suck sugar and salt (so heart benefits too) out of our blood at considerably higher rates than normal

So yes, in theory, if you wolf out on carbs and take a high enough dose of Jardiance then it "should" be able to suck out those extra carbs

But that is like playing Russian Roulette

I had an Aunt that tried doing that with Insulin - eat half a cake and just shoot up

Every time you slip up a bit you do damage

So I see it as, if you are doing what you can (and your glipizide is very capable of taking care of "some" extra sugar - increasing the dose would let you eat a little more, but also put you more at risk for a dangerous low, so maybe not a game worth while??) then take the meds "if you need them"

I wouldn't take something just so I could eat pizza and donuts daily - possible side effects from the meds, jiggering the dosage and still eating too much etc

But I would say, if what you are doing now is no longer enough and you have to change/add/increase meds "anyhow", then going to something that would give you "a little more room in terms of total carbs" is not a terrible idea - I just wouldn't "super dose" in order to "super eat" 😁

Simple is always better with diabetes
