My Cake Craving
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes two weeks ago so fairly new to this all! What is the approach to sweet treats ! Is the an alternative to cake! I need to find a way to reduce my consumption and I find I eat cake to get happy

For a sweet treat, I have a few blueberries, blackberries, or raspberries. They are diabetes friendly whole fruits. Baby steps.

Carbs like cakes, make you crave even more carbs. Do yourself a favor and avoid all added sugars in food and drink. Baby steps.

Avoid all white carbs:
White rice,
White flour,
White potatoes,
White bread,
White pasta.
Baby steps.

Portion control. I plate all my food on a 7 inch plate before eating.
Half plate very low carb vegetables.
Quarter plate protein.
Quarter plate high fiber carbs or a serving of diabetes friendly whole fruits.
Baby steps.

Walk 10-15 minutes immediately after eating if your doctors allow. This will lower the glucose spike. Baby steps.

You can do baby steps. Start with one and keep doing it every day. When you are ready do another and keep doing it every day. Soon you are on your way.

And never give up, never surrender, never ever.
You got this.
Have a wonderful day.

that's all great advice but it doesn't help your cravings. maybe try this I find it helps and doesn't hurt my sugar level. pick a time of day same time everyday eat your cake but cut it in half of your norm. it makes your mind satisfied takes the craving away. and you can be good the rest of the time while you anticipate that hr it makes it taste even better. my time is right after dinner I do 1 cupcake around 8 pm . hope this helps alittle😁

Hi, try and see a nutrionist or dietician and follow a healthy diet. When shopping read labels for low gi foods which amounts to 55.its going to take a while but you need to cut out carbs. When baking at home try almond flour instead of cake wheat, here again you need to apply portion control. When you feel for cake try and replace it with a fruit or nuts low fat milk etc, hope this helps. Tc
