With veggies, the lower the starch the better - so stay away from the potato's, white rice, corn and beets (being the worst) with almost anything "green" being the safer bet (although peas are kinda up there as well) - leafy veggies, carrots, turnip, beans are better choices

In the fruit department the darker the fruit the better (general statement) so a dark plum is better than an apple. Most berries are fine and full of anti-oxidants as well - less ripe banana is better than over ripe, most of the melons (honey dew, cantaloupe) are fine, a really ripe watermellon could be a problem

If in doubt just google "GI of fruit/vegetables" - GI or Glycemic Index is a reasonable scale that (rates) how much a given fruit or veggie will effect your blood sugar with the lower number being better (obviously) - so it can help you choose by two options that you like
