Lows
Can anyone suggest how i could help avoid lows in the morning i have not been on insulin but a little over a week since hospital stay and I'm taking strong steroids and have to adjust my medication to my numbers which is very confusing since i have never been on insulin before. Is there a snack or anything to eat before bed to help that or set a clock to check during 2 or 3 in the morning
Any help appreciated I'm very concerned about this and feeling overwhelmed
Thank you
It was 44 one morning recently i took Glucose tablets and it brought it back up quickly. But the issue is it doesn't wake me so maybe checking earlier like 2 or 3 would help then i can adjust my Humalog then
Thank you but it has dropped lower than 70 that's my biggest concern it has been 71 also but the 44 was scary
How "low" are you going - that is a subjective statement
Steroids have the effect of raising blood sugar
There is almost nothing you can do tonight to effect your blood sugar tomorrow morning - anything you ingest will simply not stay in your system that long
But if your blood sugar is not dropping below 70 then it is "safe" - you may not be used to being down there and it could be "low compared to what you have seen", but it would be no cause for concern from a safety point of view
