I'm thinking of maybe trying it out after watching the Netflix show: "What the health". Just figured out the title is a play on "what the hell" and the documentary is like an expose with attitude.
Plant based is super heart healthy but you should still talk to a dietitian because not all plants are equal and you can become deficient in some vitamins and iron laying completely off meat
The other thing you have to watch is your total carb intake - plant based protein in particular has carbs while meat has zero carbs so it does take some work (hence the advice of an RD) to cover all your bases
@A DiabetesTeam Member, how are your numbers?
Bubs and i have started having more veggie. Now have lentils in chili, chickpeas in curry- aim to reduce meat.
Thanks, I agree with both of you that this major a change is best done working with a dietician.
@A DiabetesTeam Member I’m not going to get into the rights and wrongs of vegetarianism but it’s important to test after eating plant based diets. If the BGs come out well then keep on the diet, if not don’t continue.
I do cook vegetarian sometimes but have to be very careful. I can’t eat any legumes as they push up my bgs far too high, in fact much of a vegetarian diet for me doesn’t work because of elevated bgs. Salads are mostly fine and many but by no means all vegetables work for me.
