When Your Bg Numbers Are In Range (stable) Do You Skip Or Adjust Medications?
So I have noticed over the last 2 ish weeks; and yes I should have brought this up with my endocrinology doctor, however 1. I didn't like her bedside manner 2. (My mom was there; she is my care of for my being on disability)
Please do not judge me here
I have not been taking all of my medications as prescribed because well my numbers are reflecting stable. So if I eat and my number is for exame 105 bg do I still take my metformin extended release or my Januvia. The one thing I have been… read more
I would personally keep taking them until i could talk to my doctor. Maybe you can email him the question and get you answer that way.
If your not comfortable being totally up front with your Dr. Than its time to find a new Dr you can have enough trust in to have an honest exchange about your care plan.
Meds are more complicated than they appear my GP’s office has a pharmacist on staff. When making med changes or med treatment plan or how to use and understand how those drugs work she had been a real asset!
No I would never skip medications. It’s so important to stay on a schedule to maintain your health. By skipping the medication you run the risk of the medication not working properly. This was explained by my doctor.
Do talk to a Doc (or your Doc)
The metformin is not for your mealtime numbers it's for managing fasting numbers (regulates sugar released by your liver) so I would take that regardless of what your numbers are (at least for now - need months of normal FBS numbers before it would be wise to discontinue)
Your Januvia works by keeping your own Insulin (self produced) working a little longer than normal to help with mealtime numbers, so if your mealtime numbers are "good" that is a good indication that it is doing what it is supposed to
Typically the Doc would be looking for mealtime numbers to be at least 90 (5.0 mmols) or higher without going out of range so unless you start dipping below 90 post meal, then looks like your Januvia is doing a fine job and I would stick with it
If you were taking mealtime insulin that is more likely what you would adjust if you were running a little low post meal.
Just my 2 cents - but do talk to a Doc
Thank you all for your input. I will consult with my doctor, I just value the seasoned/veteran advice from long time warriors. It truly is appreciated
