Most of the drugs in that family are "short" since a number of (influencers) let the world know that they can help you lose some weight. So there has been a run on them and particularly in the US, Doctors seem willing to prescribe them "off label" as long as the "non-diabetic" is willing to pay the grand a month or whatever they cost

Drugs in the same class (same active ingredient) include Byetta and Bydureon (the first ones to hit the market), Victoza, Tanzeum, Trulicity, Adlyxin, Saxenda, Rybelsus, Ozempic and the newest one, Mounjaro

All of them would provide the same basic "blood sugar" benefit although the newer ones have added health benefits (they have improved the formula over the last 10 years or so)

But you may find that at least one of them is available and would simply need your Doc to change your prescription (unless your Pharmacist can - some jurisdictions like where I live the Pharmacist who is really a "drug doctor" can sub in one for the other and give you dosing instructions)

Cardiogenic shock with multiple organ failure...sugars were not reading on my glucometer which maxed at 600. I was a hot mess. Collapsed in a restaurant in Lansing Michigan on my way to Chicago...but went to the hospital after I got home when I was unresponsive with a BP of 40/palpable...I am truly lucky

That's incredible - a 15.5 A1C would mean your "average" blood sugars were close to 400 - you are beyond lucky that you survived

My hgb A1C was 15.5 when I cardiac arrested. It was in the 7's at last draw. I have dropped considerable weight and was off all insulin. Just so disappointing.
