I have always used a cough and congestion formula cough syrup but haven’t taken any since being diagnosed with diabetes. I came down with a cold and developed a cough and went to take my usual and I ended up spitting it out as it was so sweet and instantly knew it was loaded with sugar. Is there a such thing as a diabetic friendly cough syrup? I am very sensitive to a lot of over the counter medication. I can’t take NyQuil. A lot of over the counter meds cause an allergic reaction. Members enthusiastically responded to someone asking about diabetic-friendly cough syrup after realizing their usual medication was loaded with sugar, with many suggesting sugar-free options like Diabetic Tussin, Robitussin no sugar added, Bisolvon, and Covonia Chesty Cough Sugar Free available at pharmacies. Several members shared natural remedies they rely on, including homemade chicken soup, herbal teas with lemon and ginger, pineapple, zinc, Ricola sugar-free lozenges, and fire cider, emphasizing the importance of extra fluids and rest. A recurring theme was the added complexity of managing high blood pressure alongside diabetes, with members noting that many decongestants can interfere with BP medications and encouraging consultation with a pharmacist to find safe options.

I don’t use it often hence why it was such a shock on how sweet it was. I don’t remember it being so sweet. 😂 Goes to show how not eating sugar makes you realize how much sugar is in our food. I think the desserts I make are sweet but the rest of my non diabetic crew says they aren’t sweet enough. Luckily I use herbs to treat my blood pressure so not usually a problem with interactions.
