Can Facialis paralysis ( Cranial nerve neuritus ) be part of diabetes?

At the end of March this year I was diagnosed with Facialis paralysis ( Cranial nerve neuritus ) I would like to know if a diabetic can cause this I am only thinking about it now and haven't asked my doctor it.

Vascular damage due to high blood sugars over time can be a major contributing factor. Lyme's disease patients also have a much higher rate of Bell's palsy.
