The short answer is NO.

According to some data that is available from the CDC (which at least tracks diabetes in the US) about 20% of Type 2's will eventually need to go on Insulin.

In my own family cluster (which is now up to 24 total members who had/have Type 2), four of them (now all deceased) used Insulin - there is still a half dozen of us alive and none are currently on insulin.

And if you are looking for inspiration - my Great-Grandfather, whom I remember well because he lived to be 101 was diagnosed with (sugar diabetes now called Type 2) at age 50 so lived with diabetes for 51 years.

Not only did he not take insulin, he never even took any kind of medication for diabetes - kept control for 5 Decades with diet alone and never experienced even a minor complication.

I did have a small handful of other relatives that likewise never took diabetes meds at all, much less insulin.

There are two situations that will require Type 2's to go on insulin.

First, because we are all individuals, some will just have their system degrade (pancreatic function) faster than others and will require supplemental insulin.

Second, those that try to ignore their condition and go uncontrolled for a number of years will burn their own pancreas out (it can only handle so much abuse before it will permanently go on strike) and they will require supplemental insulin.
