If I Needed Mealtime Meds Today What Would I Personally Choose?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I currently don’t need or take and diabetes meds so I have the luxury, at least for the moment to consider what I will do, or ask for or ask about when that time comes.

I “expect” that one day I will need the help. I will no longer, despite my best efforts, will be able to do it on my own
.
I will NOT see that as some failure on my part. I will not resist. In fact it is quite likely that I will ask about starting medication long before the Doc suggests it - control is more important then pride.

I take glimepiride &20 units of insulin in the morning. Before breakfast, I check my glucose level on my meter. I remember when the level of glucose was checked with a urine sample and a test strip.

I have taken metformin in different doses for over 40 years. I had a honeymoon period after my initial diagnosis when I did not take anything at all. I am a rare person who does experience hypoglycemia if I take too much metformin so I don't take more than I have to. In the last few years I have had to add Glipizide also. I have never had the stomach issues even in the start with metformin that alot complain about.

I had taken glyburide and I reacted badly to it and most other meds they had at the time. I had taken Victoza and then the government would not pay for it and I switched to Ozempic. I really like the once a week thing and it is consistent with good blood sugars.

what I would Do? Check my BS, then adjust my meal and or beverage, check 2h after BS, Take action to test do additional measures to bring BS to normal range. Phone my Doctor if an Emergency is Required. Then Act. I have my response broken into bits and bytes, I Can Do, consciously! I suggest this Bit&Bytes System as a Strategy in Emergency!😉
